I run a website called Forsnowboarding that deals with the art and design side of the snowboard industry.
We recently hooked up with Ride Qi, makers of really innovative snowboard masks, and we're giving away a Ride Qi Alpha Mask to our readers this week. If you're interested, check out our site to find out how to win it: http://www.forsnowboarding.com

Just FYI, one of the creators of Qi is our own DC Domain, so show 'em some support. Definitely interested in what they got in the pipeline.

from the way i read it, it has a velcro strap in the back and ear straps. not sure how those ear straps are made or what not, maybe just some loops?
and yes, dcdomain started this company up. was possibly thinking of getting one, but it looks super long as far as the profile picture shows on the website. www.rideqi.com |

Hey guys, thanks for the interest! To address some of the questions I wrote up a blog post here: http://blog.rideqi.com/2009/12/some-shots-of-mask-from-last-season.html
But to save you guys from having to click away from the Sierra community I copied most of the info below:
The first photo on the right gives you a better idea of the length, fortunately I must've just done a face-plant so you can see the bottom border of the mask against my black DC jacket. The mask stays in place via the velcro in the back. Like other masks, just pull the mask tight on your face and velcro up the rear. The elastic ear bands which you can barely make out in the second smaller photo is optional but totally recommended if you either have a small face or you pull the mask up and down a lot which I do constantly. Yeah I know, I look like a dork with the mask tucked into my jacket. I don't usually do that but I got caught this time... but hey, to each their own. I'm not going to judge as long as you rock an α mask! There's also a short crappy Qik video I posted up last year when I took the mask out for a bike ride in 20 degree weather.Once I get my hands on my brother's PowerShot SD780 (I only have my phone right now which has a pretty terrible camera) I'll post up some photos of the elastic bands and a video of me putting a mask on. |

Also, read your press blurb, why Japan? Was it something special and particular to the thousands of little peawangs (lol, cant say peac*ck) and peahens roaming the hakuba alps? what did those little uber flouro kids inspire in you?. |

These are pretty cool, I like that red "I Ching" style one. Very much a fan of face masks that cover without slits and holes a la Friday the 13th and Hannibal Lecter. Breathable fabric that keeps you warm is awesome. I also think tucking it in your jacket is fine, I walk around at work with my baggy dress shirts tucked in my super skinny high water 80's jeans anyway.
Annnnywho...even if there were only one other person in the raffle or whatever my luck isn't that great when it comes to winning things so I just bought one instead. It'll probably be here sometime midweek next week, I'll take pics. |

Just bought the yellow one. These masks are sick. I always used a bandana in the past and I'm hoping this mask will stay up a little better. Hook me up with a die-cut or sticker DC Domain and (depending on the size) I'll rock it on my board or helmet and give you some free advertising on the mountain. I have 3 brothers that snowboard and I'll be telling them to buy a mask from you too. You've got a great product.

We have a video review of the Alpha Mask on the way, but from first impressions, it's really well made and lightweight, and holds up well by ear straps and the velcro strap on the back of the neck.
Still time to win one as well. |

Video Review: Hey guys, thanks for all the support! Sounds like Forsnowboarding will probably have a video up of the mask before I get to it.
Diecuts: Anyway those of you that have been asking for diecuts, no worries. All masks will come with a 5.75" x 4.75 diecut. I ordered them in 9 colors so you guys have some choices. Should be here in a week or so. I already shipped two batches of masks out without the diecuts so I'll be shipping diecuts in a separate shipment. Need to get color prefs and update the site when they come in. International Shipping: Hope I got it right using the USPS.com online tool. Looks like First-Class mail is a whopping $3 for a single mask . Might take a while though. International Priority will be about $13 and will take 6-10 days. I guess I should add this info to the site too huh? I'm such a n00b at this...eldolocal68, the helmet I'm rocking is a RED Hi-Fi (the first gen, not the current gen). It's HUGE and it doesn't help that I have a huge head. Just got a Smith Maze in the mail so I'll be rocking that this year. Off to ship another batch, will be back later to answer any other questions. Thanks again everyone!

I read nothing about helmet interaction there...? My helmet has earflaps which is part of my concern, and I also wear earphones once in a while. |

i'm confused jeese. helmet interaction?
lemme break it down like a fraction for ya. step 1. put headphones in your ears. step 2. put the facemask on. put the ear loops over your ears and velcro the mask together behind your neck. step 3. put on your helmet. step 4. put on your goggles if not wearing headphones skip step 1 |

Sorry i've never work a mask, and I don't exactly know how they operate in terms of holding them in place. I was just trying to make sure that they wouldn't interfere with the rest of the wardrobe, if that makes sense...

Regarding helmet earflaps and headphones, the mask shouldn't get in the way. We briefly considered bringing the material all the way up to provide ear coverage but decided against it for personal reasons. I really hate having anything covering my ears when I ride (I usually remove the earflaps from my helmet and never listen to music while riding). So for those of you rocking helmets and / or headphones, the mask wraps below your ears.
On our GetSatisfaction page we also brought up the idea of cutting reinforced slits on both sides of the mask to allow for the helmet strap to pass through. Didn't implement it since we had a hard time deciding what the average height should be for the placement of the slits. Going to cut them into my own mask sometime this season to see if it's an idea worth studying further. Bear with me while I figure out the international shipping stuff...

Okay I think I finally got all the shipping sorted out. For you international people can you just check to make sure all the options are there on checkout? Thanks! Partner told me to make it an even $5 for international shipping to cover for the slight increase in PayPal fees. But for those of you who already ordered, we are sticking with the $3 fee I quoted before.
What else... oh I need to get your die-cut color sticker choices! So I'll be emailing you guys for that when I get them in. Good luck with the free snowboard giveaway! Think I'm still not eligible

Hey guys, thanks to everyone who took part in @Forsnowboarding's Twitter contest. I'm sure Twitter wants to thank those of you who went through the trouble of actually signing up for an account to do so.
Also many thanks for those of you who supported and purchased a mask. Remember to send in your die-cut color choice if you didn't do so! Anyway, Jonlin, the co-founder is in business school right now in France and one of his classmates told him that we should change our price to $19.9x (either .95 or .99) instead of $20. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the pricing idea. Haha I feel like I'm in a .99 cents store.
Everyone does it but I don't think it ever affected my purchasing decisions. |

While what i believe teh idea behind it is to try to make teh price look actually cheaper, however most days, people just round up. So i dont think it will make the least bit of difference in deciding whether one will buy this product as most people could find a penny or nickel on the ground.

Wouldn't change anything for me, I'd probably throw that penny or nickel into a wishing well anyway. Honestly, judging from the pictures of your product alone, I'm surprised it's even priced at $20, I was expecting something a little more pricey like $30.
