Dumba$$ sales guy

This just fires me up...

Yesterday we were flying back from a trip checking out a couple of our manufacturers. I saw a local board shop and decided to stop on in. There was this Dad and his son (probably around 14 or 15 yrs old). They were asking for advice and looking for gear since the son was a newbie and only gone once.

The sales man (in this case dumba$$) told them that classes were waste of time and that he'll learn just as quickly by himself. Then he proceeds to tell them that the Burton Custom X is the board he wants as "it's a sick board that is easy to ride and will progress quickly". WTF??? I hate when people try to rip off others. When he left to talk to another customer I told the Dad and son to run as they're getting taken. I ended up talking to them for close to 45 minutes in the parking lot and gave them the advice I thought would really help (in gist take a class and no need to buy a freakin' $700 board).

Hopefully that kid's future boarding experience will now be fun and parents' wallets a little fatter.

Hey the Dad of that son emailed me today! I always love hearing from enthusiasts and customers and this one just made everything that much more worthwhile. Not to bore anyone, but thought I'd share...it made my week.

PS> Not only did we send his son some decals we also sent him a shirt! Hopefully he becomes a life long boarder! I love this stuff! Oh and yes...I told them to check out Sierra!

You looked like you needed to go but ended up staying with us for nearly an hour (and again we certainly appreciated that). Believe me when I say we'll never go back to that store! We ended up buying the right gear for him (thanks for the tip of looking at '09 models for price breaks). Your advice certainly helped us and allowed us to ask the right questions. Josh is looking forward to taking a class with his new board. Again, just wanted to say thanks and it's people and companies like you that add to the pleasure of seeing a smile on my kid's face.

If you have any, I would appreciate any stickers for his board. Wicked Adrenaline all the way. We're now your biggest fans.

no seriously..... i read the first part of the thread earlier...... and its cool as hell that you got a response like that!

its pretty bad that some stores have to "make" their living by doing shady sh!t but whatever....

props to you (i wanted to post THAT earlier) and good luck to that guy and his boy....

at least there are at least a few good people left!!!!!

question - would you have down what did if the sales guy never turned away from the "client?"

Yeah I never took classes when I started. I regret it, because it took me longer to learn how to carve and stuff then it could have.
