Man congrats to Shawn White, what a successful young guy. He's not wangy, he's really good at what he does, and DAMN Red Bull always pulls some amazing shit!
Not the first time I've seen his private halfpipe

When can I ride this half-pipe? I think my face needs a little more smashing.
I think this will be very cool to watch, say what you want about Shaun White, he's a darn good snowboarder. This project couldn't hurt progression but I don't think it will have the same impact as the "Chin ramp" did for skateboarding. Nice touch to have the music from "Requiem for a Dream". Would have been cool if someone from the Venture factory came by to poach the pipe, after all it is in their backyard. Question: When did Shaun White find the cure to being ginger? Hey! I think this is my first forum post!! |

The halfpipe is in Silverton, CO. Shaun's entire part of this years Burton B Movie is filmed in this halfpipe. He throws down some massive 1260s, it's pretty ridiculous. He's definitely the best pipe rider as far as technique goes, maybe he'll develop some more style this year. And maybe he'll become less competitive and film more video parts instead!
This halfpipe will probably never be open to the public. Just Shaun and maybe a few other (Redbull/Burton) riders that get invited. |

I know all of us noobs "worship" Shaun White, but the guy is absolutely amazing. It may be irritating to boarding fanatics that the public only knows White and not other top pros, but he gets all the media and he is fun to root for. The double back rodeo is unbelievable!

I remember this thing being featured in a snowboarding mag I read (a September issue, I believe). That box at the end of the pipe is a full of foam. They hauled pieces of equipment up the mountain and reassembled it. Cool stuff!

Do you think Shaun White rides a vapor board just with his graphics on it or is it actually the operator board?

To be honest, I think it is actually the operator board. Shaun doesn't seem like the type of person to give too much thought into what he's riding. As long as he can ride it anywhere and he can throw down and win, it's all the same to him.

Last year at Winter X, he was goofing around before his run on superpipe and cracked his board. He almost dropped out of the competition. He said that he had spent so much time getting the board just right that he didn't know if he wanted to try his run on a backup board. Granted he won the competition on a backup, but he was ready to quit because his board wasn't just right. I would say that he cares which board he's riding.

Shaun has amazing talent, but he's not as far ahead as everyone thinks. I'm sure that he has a few more tricks in his back that he learned in that Project X halfpipe, but after the X Games and Olympics, other people were doing the same tricks. At the US Open I watched I-Pod throw a Double McTwist 1260 in the middle of his run and link it into other tricks. Louis Vito threw back-to-back double cork 1080's and ended his run with a 1260. Those guys didn't even win! Shaun is an amazing rider, but he also has these huge corporations that have a lot of money invested in him staying on top of the sport and they make sure he does. Project X was a perfect example of that.

I think that if he has the tricks, and a normal resort annoys him, its ok.
But, contact with people is what make you progress too. Feedback. And the most important, having fun with your friends :) Im your friend, invite me ! :P

It is progressing.
I like what RED BULL is doing with their athlete's. They are running one big project after another.
That is the actuall one. (Nothing wiht snowboarding - but still impressive when a person is jumping off 20 miles above the ground)

Funny that when he got to the US Open guys like Louie Vito were pulling the same corked spins without the benefit of a million dollar halfpipe. White still does them the best and pulls them off more often than anybody else.

Is it good for progression, or good for Shawn White's progression? Im not hating, im a fan, but its a big advantage for him to have his own half pipe like that. The foam pit sure makes doing those sick tricks a hell of a lot easier.

It really is a big advantage and I think that is exactly what redbull and all the other sponsors wanted. They have lots invested in Shaun White and as long as he is the best and doing things never been done before and winning competitions, they are making their money back with interest. |
