So we had a big discussion over here in the offices and with friends and everyone fell into one of a few categories. Which one are you? It was a laugh to find out people thoughts behind their actions

1) The Clash King (or Queen for you female riders)
- Doesn't care how out of place your getup looks together
- Oil and Vinegar baby...oil and vinegar
- Rainbow Bright rules your get up

OR

2) The nit pick Matchy Match
- Gotta match from board to boots to bindings to pants to underwear to jacket to goggles to headgear
- You consult "Monk from the TV series"

OR

3) The Hybrid
- Some colors gotta match so you don't completely look Rasta'd out and it stresses you out to find the perfect combo
- You're plagued with the curse of having to scour the Internet and catalogs for hours on end until your head spins to make sure you remain in between the Clash King and the Matcher

OR

4) Show me the Money!
- So broke you'll piece together whatever you can find in your closet even if it means only a wind breaker with 10 layers of shirts and sweatshirts underneath

I am a Hybrid but I don't scour catalogs or the internet to make sure I don't fit into some other category.  I just buy what I like.

i dont like matching.  really, i dont care much.. i always go for function first and then think about the "look" after ive picked what i want.. but i do like to enjoy the way my stuff looks.  im more of a good-contrast guy rather than matching.  not into matching at all really, but sometimes it happens on accident.  like my charlie with superpros, it happens to go together well, but i didnt pick the board and i got the bindings for the bindings and they happen to match well.

i look like a fat brown pig on a snowboard, so basically im a number 4. I bought the cheapest gear i could find in the shops (about 15,000 yen at the time), and have worn it for the last two seasons. Ill be still wearing it this season. It looks AWFUL (or rather *I* look awful in the pictures ive seen), but well, once you hit the japanese fashion show on every slope, whats the point? Snowboarding is about 30% about the riding here :)
I mean, dont get me wrong, theres loads of people that are good, but damn they also LOOK amazing too :) Im a fat gaijin, so bleh, even if i rocked what they rocked, id still look a bit of a twat, so i might as well be cheap about it :)

I don't really care really.  My outfits match currently, but I have worn stuff in the past that was thermonuclear obnoxious.

Why ride when you can claim?

I'm kind of matchy match, but because I'm brokey broke. My entire setup is black. Black pants, jacket, goggles, board. I did dye my bindings black because the military green didn't look good with the yellow on my Dominant, but that's the only thing that I have done to intentially match my setup. The rest is because my gear is old.

I have no style/creativity.

gotta admit, I am picky about how my stuff looks - It all has to match to a certain extent. No rainbow of colors either.  The exception is bandannas - I've collected a bunch of them that contrast/match my jacket, but only wear the neon ones in spring

I'm also picky about graphics and stuff (...but I am a graphic designer; AA degree).  Amaturish looking graphics on a board is something I've discovered I can't be seen with...and if the lettering isn't a professional looking font, I wouldn't even touch it in the first place (some boards look like the "artist" was wasted when they drew/wrote that stuff).

I rode an O-matic year before last and, although the graphics and lettering were totally pro, I became kinda self conscious about people seeing them after it dawned on me "O-matic" is a silly name for professional level sports equipment.

huge logos on my outerwear is not happening either - unless they pay me to be their billboard, I'd rather not advertise the brand

yeah, I have idiosyncrasies, but fortunately, I'm not on that much of a budget that I have to sacrifice the looks I prefer for the quality I demand

Hybrid, I don't strictly make my stuff match, but I tend to buy stuff that is function, that I will personally like wearing. So sometimes that comes out to matching, but not too much.

Tanish silvery jacket, black and green pants, black helmet, tan goggles, white bindings, blue and yellow board, white boots. So I basically go with about 4 colors because they are my favorite and just go with whatever I think feel and looks good.

Definately a hybrid.
I like my clothes to match, but i i'll pick a board, boots and bindings on performance.  Usually get my stuff on sale but i picked out some all white outerwear at Christmas, just to keep me cool on hot days.  But it goes cool with my board so im stoked on that.
All the clothes i've ever had have just gone good with my boards.  Just get lucky.  But i'll admit i like it.  Kinda gives me a good feeling.  I like to have fun with that kinda stuff.  Would love to be a clothes designer.

Clothing doesn't matter as long as its comfortable and keeps me warm. I'll spend a little extra for comfort. Matching doesn't matter. Check that, I'd prefer not to match.

what?  my stuff is comfortable.  Check what? Matching doesn't matter?  It does when your a baller homie.  haha j/k. anyways i'm not mad or anything.  I just don't know what "check that" means.  Kinda outta the loop on that one.  I look like an abominable snowman comin down the hill, check that.  just playin.  But uhm, yeh i prefer to look decent.  I figured out what you meant, but not sure if your talking about comfort and matching.

All my stuff is pretty darn comfortable.  Can't complain.  I scored some Predator outerwear in locally in Tahoe City for half off.  Goretex.  Super Stoked on that.  Jacket is REAL thick, like some spongy stuff, perfect storm day jacket.  And my pants are super comfy and perfect length.  Grey pants, black jacket.  Simple and clean, maybe boring.  But i like it.

Check dat!  I love my sh*t!  Half off for da balla!  And cozy warmth!  Did i get lucky?  Or was i born with this kind of intelligence?  The kind of intelligence that says, "matching matters".

Peace out, I love you.

I think by check that, he meant scratch that.

Matching doesn't matter. Scratch that, I'd prefer not to match.

When you look like I do there is no point trying to match, it is just a waste of money.  Nothing I wear on the snow is going to make me look better so I just go for what gear is most functional.  Colour or matching is a long way last in any purchasing decision I make.

I guess you would say Hybrid, I like my pants and jackets to match but I could careless if they match my board. My board and bindings happen to match but black and white usually go together.

I like to have some semblance of color coordination, but lately I've been expanding.  I have a pair of neon yellow-green pants and some black gloves with neon green spots.  I'm thinking of picking up a bright orange helmet.

The main reason is that I kind of like looking not the same as every other person on the hill (which is what happens when you tend to match with your greys, browns, blacks, blues, etc.).  Additionally, I HATE it when I lose track of people on the mountain.  With something that pops like that, you're much easier to identify.

Well then there's always the "snow bunnies" in all pink or all white. They definitely stand out. haha

I like color-coordination. I personally wear the boring colors: light blue jacket, grey pants and helmet, black gloves and face mask...but my goggles are orange (complementary color of blue - yeah it matters to me).

But your black gloves with neon green spots sound pretty amazing. If I didn't spend a fortune on my helmet, I'd consider getting an orange one, too - that's an amazing idea.

I guess the argument FOR coordination could be: if you've developed your own style, you should stand out on the mountain anyway. Shouldn't need your gear to help distinguish you from the mountain masses.

I keep the colors basic and neutral.

Why?

I want to be the anonymous one getting in people's way.

Gotta be coordinated for work but when I'm off work, eh I could go either way.
You didn't know what you think you thought you knew.
