Hello Sierra Community! Signal Snowboards is teaming up with Sierra and the community (you) to build a custom snowboard! Our motto at the factory is Dream it, Build it, Ride it. We have our own factory called The Lodge in Huntington Beach California where we are able to design, build and test all in a day. With you and management at Sierra we will be working on narrowing down specifics and technology until we come up with the perfect board for you. Once completed we will then build it and it will be available only through Sierrasnowboard.com. So please, let the ideas flow and if you have any questions on materials, flex or construction we'll walk you through. One note, we are going with a sandwich constructed board, but other than that have at it. Feel free to take a look at our Signal site for ideas, sizes or constructions you may like to add to this Sierra board. Best of luck and lets get to designing!
Best,
Dave Lee

Great tour.
Looking forward to the "park" version of the board.
So there's a factory exclusively for sierra boards?

check the video all... Signal is going to make whatever board the community comes up with.  This includes shape, terrain, graphics, whatever... think outside the box on this one (ie: banana?).

This thread is an open canvas for all your ideas to spawn the next community snowboard...so post up whatever comes to mind.  Special thanks to Dave and Signal Snowboards for opening up their factory to all of us.  have fun and let the creativity flow...cheers

The graphics NEED to be the fluorescent ones made by philwiles.  That is amazing.  And I would love a bannana tech board/rocker!!!  Also a park board would be great

Here's my 2ยข:

-Graphics based on whoever wins the Snowboard Design contest.
-PARK ROCKER construction.
-152cm, 156cm, and 158cm like they already have, PLUS possibly a 154cm.

Price: ~$300 if it's profitable. Not sure how much Signal's going to be charging for this whole process, but if it's like Capita's deal, it would be nice to have the same board with different graphics available for a slightly lower price.
I'm here for the point, not the points.

Sweetness. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get both of what i've wanted...the park rocker and a sierra board :)

Mostly I'd just want the rocker and a decent flex. Other than that...its all good to me :)
I has too many boards.

Dream it Build it Ride it ...  we are stocked to be working with Signal Snowboards to design and build a snowboard.

It is an amazing thing to have your own factory in the USA.  Their are a lot of competitive advantages to building your own boards.  Look at the inovation coming our of Mervin and Signal.

My Dream is to build a whole line with the community and to have the entire process unfold online.  This is a step in that direction, with this project we are going to be able to experiment with shapes, construction materials more that ever before, and how it relates to the type of board, price point, graphics and name we choose.

As soon as the snow flies I will send out some signal boards for community member to ride, I can't wait to start researching.

More powder days please

I think that something like the Banana with Magnetraction is great. I would add stiffer stringers in it for more pop that lasts over time. The Skate Banana seems to lose it's pop. Certainly there's something that could maintain pop like carbon stringers in the core or maybe something longer lasting like bamboo.

Deff a smaller size like a 149-151 with a wider waist width then most boards that size like 25.2-25.6. Banana's on the top of the list along with a blunt shaped tip and tail like Zag said. and maybe something like Burtons Infinite Ride, my twins got the same pop as it did 2 years ago.

a rockered park board would be sick. although not as extreme as the park rocker and something a little less flexy so more of a park board instead of a jib board

A rocker would be awesome, but more of an all mountain board; so not heavy on the rocker just a little more than subtle

I don't think Signal has rights to use MTX to be honest, but I agree with the added pop.

The rocker is a good idea and like Xyian said make it a little stiffer than the banana so it doesn't lose its pop 3/4s of the way through the season.  My thing is last years sierra board was a park board.  Anyone thinking maybe we should go all mountain with this board?  I know eventually Mike wants to have a whole line up but all mountain makes sense to me as the first board to come out in this line.  I love park I just suck at riding it right now.  It just seems a lot easier to take an all mountain board into the park (burton custom for example) than to take a park board all over the mountain.

true story buz, the thing is most if not all rockers are park boards or total powder boards. if were goin rocker, then its gonna have to be park board, but if we scrapp the rocker, then we can go all mountain.

also PLEASE DONT DO MAGNATRACTION hate the stuff......

i'm all down for a stiff park board. i dont want a noodle. i wanna see something that can stomp a landing and not wash out. maybe a midwide?

like i said before, lots of carbon for pop and stiffness

You gotta remember designing MTX took YEARS of trial and error... You can't just make the edges wavy and it'll automatically work. There are some specifics you need to get which Mervin has already gotten down.

But I agree with Zag. NO MTX... Tongue

Clap sweet vid DL, really nice to see the Signal setup, looks like a really, cool, chilled vibe out there.

I kinda think Bruizza's idea of a more all-mountain type of board is a cool idea, plus it's more likely to sell units as it'll appeal to a wider range of peeps. Perhaps make it all mountain but with a freestyle bias.

Which is a pity cos I just want to try a park rocker type board but that's me personally LOL not what would necessarily be good for Sierra, the more Sierra people ride this board the better.

I like Zag's idea โ€“ park rocker plus carbon stringers โ€“ sounds like the best of both worlds, be interesting to see if it works.

As for names, since the first Sierra board was called the 'crew' as it represented a group of people what about sticking with that idea and using other phrases to describe a bunch of tight people eg. Tribe? LMK what you think.

Graphics โ€“ I vote black and gold koi-coptor or the sneakers, but I am biased LOL

I was making a joke in reference to the trademark on MTX.  The quotes were supposed to represent a conversation in which someone hides the fact that they may or may not have stolen the technology by just calling them "wavy edges"

But to also make this post somewhat productive...

I would agree with some sort of rocker.  I would assume that everyone here has a cambered board/boards that they like and use.  But I would also guess that most people don't have a rocker board, so it would give people even more incentive (other than the awesome Sierra aspect, of course) to buy one.

Yeah, that was me. I'm actually still doing it too, just not to the extent I was originally planning. What I'm planning to do now is research in graphic design and get a company to print my design on one of their boards. All in all, I'll still get a board out of the deal. Wink

is your factory off gothard street? i live in huntington. can i visit the factory? Tongue

also  i would like a cheap reverse camber board without too much camber.

sure pressing is fun, but then it gets old if there's so much camber you feel like you're riding a noodle and can't huck off the jumps at bear.

I'll be jumping in from time to time to help bring the final board designs together for production. Talking to Mike, we are going with two sizes in this board. So to begin, as a community what two sizes are you all thinking?

Well first we have to decide what type of board we are going to make.  I mean if it is a park board then we need 2 shorter sizes.  If it is an all mountain board we need some slightly longer sizes.
Park I would say a 152 and a 155

All mountain I would say a 157 and 159.

Spot on Bruizza, there's no much point talking about sizes until we decide what sort of board it's going to be.

Again I'd agree with Bruizza on the sizes if the board was either park/all-mountain, they probably give you the largest catchment potential.

DL if we do a board in 2 sizes is it possible to changes the colours for the design for both sizes without affecting setup costs for printing eg. if we use the same artwork screens for both boards but say change the colour that's being printed?

152 is a definite yes. Second size somewhere between 155 and 158 like stated before. Probably a 156.

Any updates with what shape/board Mike's deciding to go with? Big%20smile

I would buy neither if a 52 and 56 were the sizes. Those are too small for me. I even wish I would have gotten the 59 Banana.
I have a great sense of humour. I'm also entitled.

52 and 56 sound good to me just as long as the boards got some decent width like 25.6 - 26???
im really liking the rocker idea since is was looking at getting a skate banana next year though i would like it to be more on the flexy side since i already have the fairly stiff Crew
