Sierra Says: This is the new and improved Sierra Crew. This year's model was stiffed up a bit, making it a fun, and forgiving ride, while holding on to high performance. We gave it a new shape to make it more versatile too for pure all mountain freestyle. Its flex is aggressive enough for hard turns and great control but jibs and pops like a champ. It is a must have for any quiver. This board is a must-have for any all mountain rider looking to push their riding to a new level will keeping the price reasonable.

This could be used by an advanced beginner as a great progression board, or by an intermediate to advanced rider who just wants a fun all mountain freestyle board.

This board was made in Head's factory, but is not based off of any particular model and comes with a 2 year warranty.

"I didnt like it at all." 5/2/2009
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  lightweight, Great value, Soft
  • Cons:  Too soft, Top sheet scratches, Doesn't perform, Sluggish

Experience:   I took this board out for opening day yesterday. To be honest, I hated it. I have to make a clarification first, im 86 kg's and was riding a 157 because thats all that was left. I think this board would be perfect for a beginner or someone that just wants a cheap board to use for jibbing/thrashing or those days where the cover is next to nothing. I was trying to get this board to hold a good edge but it just wasn't happening. It was getting really sketchy at high speeds on old choppy ungroomed snow. This mixed with how soft/dead the board felt made for an unpleasant ride. It felt like soggy cardboard. To be fair, I do like to ride boards that are a bit stiffer torsionally. That and the fact that im 86 kg's might have had something to do with it. I hit a few jibs on it (concrete block at the base of a lift pole and a pipe) but I dont know how to rate it for jibs because any board could have done what I did with it. It worked I guess. Pros: Its cheap. Probably good for a beginner or low intermediate/timid rider. Cons: Feels dead like soggy cardboard. This combined with the absence of good edgehold and a soft feel made for an unpleasant ride. As I said, I would recommend this board for a total beginner or a very timid rider.

"Awesome First Board" 3/26/2009
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  lightweight, Easy to carve, Strong edgehold, Great value

Experience:   This is my first board and I love it. I can only compare it to the Burton Cruzer I rented, but this board is much lighter and much easier to control. It feels like butter! I took it to the terrain park yesterday and even though I lack skill, the board carried me through. I can't wait to ride it again.

"Represent the Crew" 3/6/2009
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  lightweight, poppy, Stable at high speeds, Great value
  • Cons:  Top sheet scratches

Experience:   Nothing compares to the feeling of winning, and winning this board is no exception. After putting the board through the paces, I can honestly say that I'm surprised/impressed with Sierra's "house" board. It rode like a champ, was responsive, relatively light, and quick edge to edge. It's soft enough for presses, but still poppy and stable at higher speeds. I would have loved a sintered base on this thing, but that's about my only complaint performance wise. (Aesthetically, I had the same topsheet scratches in the near-mirror finish that other folks had, but it doesn't really bother me). Thanks SS for the hookup!

  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Durable, lightweight, Easy to carve, poppy, Stable at high speeds, Strong edgehold, Great value, Soft
  • Cons:  Top sheet scratches

Experience:   Well, the best board I've ever used anyway. Finally got a chance to take the Sierra Crew out after we got a sweet storm this last weekend. Handled well in the powder and in the icier areas. Has great pop and takes jumps well. It definitely moves as fast as I need it to go and handles all mountain terrain as well as any board I've ridden. I would recommend this board for the newbie as well as for an intermediate-advanced person as it can handle anything you want to put it through.

Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Durable, lightweight, Easy to carve, poppy, Great value

Experience:   I had the opportunity last season to demo the prototype for this snowboard and was simply amazed. Its ride compares to quite a few of higher end snowboards that i have ridden. My riding style is mostly park, but all pow on the days that offer it. The best time i had on the crew was on a day with about 6 inches of fresh. i got to rock it everywhere. It had enough edge hold to power through the groomers, floated easily in pow and was a blast in the park. When i demo boards in the park i tend to ride them a bit harder than my own personal boards and it held up like a champ. It presses easily on jibs, and still has enough power for bigger sized jumps. At the same time it will be an easy board for people to learn to carve on and get into their intermediate/advanced stages of riding. At the price point it is one of the most versatile boards around and im stoked that it is our store's model.

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Strong edgehold, Great value, Stiff

Experience:   I got the 2009 Sierra Crew 157 as a cheapo utility board, but was pleasantly surprised with it. It was a little stiffer than I expected, which was a good thing. I REALLY like the simple gloss black top and Sierra pattern base. The top just begs for some cool stickers to personalize it. This is a great all mountain utility board for a budget price. I recommend waxing it before use as the factory wax job on the extruded base went away about halfway through my first day. It's probably a good idea to wax ANY new board before you head out. This will save you the inconvenience and expense on the mountain. Best under $100 board I've bought...

Experience:   I let my brother use this board. He's a beginner, and it worked out great for him. The only con is that the surface, because it has such a shiny finish, gets scratched very easily. Other than that, no complaints.

  • Cons:  Top sheet scratches, Sluggish

Experience:   Pretty good board, excellent value @ $120. It pops very well for jumps. Top sheet will scratch by just looking at it. I wish it was a bit more responsive carving, but it's prob due to the wide width. I'd also like it a bit more stable at higher speeds. It tends to chatter when bombing down hills.

  • Name: 2009 Sierra Crew

  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Strong edgehold, Great value, Popular on mountain, Stiff

Experience:   All around great board. This is the first board I've purchased after 3 seasons of rentals, loaners, and hand-me-downs. I've got to say this is the best ride I've had on a board yet. I'm 5' 7" 175 lbs and I bought the 157. It feels great out on the groomers. It's not too heavy despite the size. It's actually lighter than an older Salomon Driver (155) I had used last year. It felt stable even at higher speeds and over some of the choppier and bumpier parts of the mountain. Carving with the Crew was smooth and it handles great. I can't wait to get it out some more this season.

Experience:   i finally got a chance to ride this board since conditions have been crappy in wisconsin. i loved it immediately. as my first board, it was better than anything i've tried so far. i was finally able to carve with this board on my feet. the flex is not too stiff and not too soft so it's good for beginners like me. it also has a pretty good amount of pop. with the great value, you can;t go wrong with this board.
