Jim Says: Rossi's new lineup might confuse some people with old names on new and different skis. The '05 B3 was a "fat" ski, which has evolved onto the new B4. The '06 B3 is an entirely new model with a wider shape than the respected B2 and a little more capability for an expert. While the new B3 at 83mm is getting about as wide as we usually recommend for everyday use, the great thing about it is that it doesn't feel as wide as it really is. When I took out the new B3, I immediately went for the weirdest snow I could find. I found it to be light feeling and effortless in wind pack, some crud in the trees, and some wet slop at the bottom of the trail. While the B3 made better short turns than I thought it would, it's really best in the medium to long radius stuff. The B3 gives an aggressive skier a little more to work with than the B2. I skied the 176 length and felt at home right away. I tried the 184 and found the length unnecessary for me unless the snow was really deep. A bigger or more aggressive skier might like the 184 better.
Note: We recomend the following binding for this ski The B3 is a flat ski that is engineered around the Axial 120Ti binding. This is Rossi's highest level binding featuring advanced toe design and a heelpiece with a short mounting zone for improved ski flex. This ski can be used with other binding choices.
