Sierra Says: One of the most popular models last year, the Ruler blends value and performance into a comfortable design. This boot has a medium flex for all-mountian shenanigans, Speed Zone lacing system for hassle-free prep, and Shrinkage tech for a reduced footprint. The construction of the Ruler is versatile enough for most styles of riding, and the snug fit is great for the rider with an average to narrow foot shape.

Burton Says: For more than a decade the Ruler has been pushing the standard of what's expected from an all-mountain boot. With the reduced weight and smaller footprint of Shrinkage, the lightning fast, bomber reliability of Speed Zone lacing, and the extra large 270 Airbag, it's pretty safe to say the Ruler's legacy has just begun. Need proof? Witness any of Danny Davis' exploits and get enlightened.

Sierra says: A legend in the snowboard boot industry, the Burton Ruler is back again for 2009 with some fresh upgrades. The new outsole is now equipped with air cushioning, making the boot 12 percent lighter than last year and giving it a better feel all around. It is also equipped with the new and improved SpeedZone lacing system, which this year is stronger and smoother. All in all, the Ruler is a great boot for any rider on any part of the mountain.

Burton says: A god among mortals. The Ruler has been the one boot others have fought to measure up to for over a decade. Featuring the planet's most powerful lacing system, and upgraded with the largest Burton air bag to ever hit the snow, the Ruler owns everything from your backyard to the backcountry. Kicking ass for longer than the life span of most of today's boot companies, it's no wonder the likes of Gigi, Romain and Danny lace it up.

  • Pros:  Heel hold, Comfortable, Easy lacing, Durable, Traction, Good quality, Warm, Breathable, Waterproofing, Easy in & out, Well known brand
  • Fit:  narrow

Experience:   Love this boot. It is light and super comfortable and warm. I have a narrow fit and this boot fits me nice and snug. The speed lacing system stays tight all day and can go as tight as you want it (to the point that it hurts). Love this boot.

"Great Boot" 10/2/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Speed Lace, Removable Linner, Comfort
  • Cons:  Sole stiching at toe, Linner string lock,
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  9 1/2
  • Boot Size:  10

Experience:   Great first pair of boots, speed lace is easy to use and securly locks. Removeable linner allows for better drying between uses. Overall very comfortable. The sole stitching at the toe pulled out on the fist week end of use, but is still joint is still holding and headed for its second year. The liner string lock has a lot of bulk and can cause a pressure point if you don't pull it up before tightening the outer boot lace.

"My boot of choice" 8/27/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Medium, versatile flex; fits me well; , good price in relation to quality,
  • Cons:  None,
  • Fit:  Average
  • Flex:  Mid
  • Shoe Size:  10
  • Boot Size:  9.5

Experience:   After riding Burton Hails for many seasons, I decided I wanted something a little more supportive. I tried on a bunch of boots (something you should always do) and I found that Burton still fit me best. I chose the Ruler for a few reasons. First, the flex isn't overly stiff (I weigh 165 lbs) but it offers support and response. Second, it just fit my foot well- not too tight, not too loose, snug everywhere. And third, I feel that the price is right for the quality of this boot. Other things of interest- I like the SpeedZone lacing system; this is my first pair of boots with any type of speed lacing system and I feel I can get the fit I need quickly and easily. I felt like the best fit was 1/2 size smaller than my typical shoe size. I have an average to narrow width foot and the last is perfect. Keep in mind everybody has different feet and everybody has different preferences. That is why there are hundreds of boot models on the market. Just because I like the Ruler doesn't mean you will. But if your preferences are similar to mine I recommend giving them a shot.

Experience:   These are great. Really great. I'm a 12.5 in normal shoes and I have the 13's. They are a great snug fit without being painful. The speed zone lacing is fast and allows you to get a great fit on your foot that stops heel lift. They are warm but also breathable. I can go all day in them without having swamp foot.

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ruler
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Pros:  Comfortable, Easy lacing, Durable, Good quality, Warm, Easy in & out, Well known brand, Popular model
  • Fit:  average

Experience:   I absolutely love this boot. It's one of the stiffer Burton boots and I largely ride all-mountain with less freestyle so these are perfect for me. It's very comfortable, very warm, and well-made all around. I believe the 09 model of the Burton boots are made so that the outside dimensions are one size smaller (without affecting the inside dimensions) than the last years models. This makes the boots fairly compact and light, easy to walk in, and easy to fit into most bindings. I've found the speedzone lacing (with upper and lower zones) to be very fast and extremely easy although not quite as customizable in terms of different zonal tightening as traditional laces. The Imprint 2 liner is also well made and has molded to my feet well after about 2 days on the snow with fairly minimal packing after about 10 days on the snow. I bought a 1/2 size smaller than I normally wear to get the correct fit, but take this with a grain of salt since everyone's feet are different. Definitely try out these boots, but personally I've been very happy with them.

Experience:   First pair of boots that I've bought. I wear a size 11 shoe, got a size 11 boot (10.5 made my feet cry). Heel hold is great, fits perfect, really light and comfortable to walk around with! Responsive and the logo design is sweet! Speed lacing is great when tightening or making minor adjustments after the first few runs. Inside is SUPER comfortable and soft.

Experience:   Super comfy when you put them on.. I had the burton moto's before this and the difference is hugee.. Once you break in this sucker the fit is ok. At first though I had problems taking my feet in/out. Also it kinda gets loose after a couple hours of riding... at least for me. But nonetheless I like it, especially for the price I got it at. 99?!
