Sierra Says: One of the most popular models last year, the Ruler blends value and performance into a comfortable design. This boot has a medium flex for all-mountian shenanigans, Speed Zone lacing system for hassle-free prep, and Shrinkage tech for a reduced footprint. The construction of the Ruler is versatile enough for most styles of riding, and the snug fit is great for the rider with an average to narrow foot shape.

Burton Says: For more than a decade the Ruler has been pushing the standard of what's expected from an all-mountain boot. With the reduced weight and smaller footprint of Shrinkage, the lightning fast, bomber reliability of Speed Zone lacing, and the extra large 270 Airbag, it's pretty safe to say the Ruler's legacy has just begun. Need proof? Witness any of Danny Davis' exploits and get enlightened.

"My boot of choice" 8/27/2009
Helpful Review?   (5) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Medium, versatile flex; fits me well; , good price in relation to quality,
  • Cons:  None,
  • Fit:  Average
  • Flex:  Mid
  • Shoe Size:  10
  • Boot Size:  9.5

Experience:   After riding Burton Hails for many seasons, I decided I wanted something a little more supportive. I tried on a bunch of boots (something you should always do) and I found that Burton still fit me best. I chose the Ruler for a few reasons. First, the flex isn't overly stiff (I weigh 165 lbs) but it offers support and response. Second, it just fit my foot well- not too tight, not too loose, snug everywhere. And third, I feel that the price is right for the quality of this boot. Other things of interest- I like the SpeedZone lacing system; this is my first pair of boots with any type of speed lacing system and I feel I can get the fit I need quickly and easily. I felt like the best fit was 1/2 size smaller than my typical shoe size. I have an average to narrow width foot and the last is perfect. Keep in mind everybody has different feet and everybody has different preferences. That is why there are hundreds of boot models on the market. Just because I like the Ruler doesn't mean you will. But if your preferences are similar to mine I recommend giving them a shot.

Hi Steve, I have a Jussi 159 2010, and a Cartel EST and I weigh 170 lbs (6ft). I was wondering if the Ruler will be a good boot to complete my setup. I will be mostly carving and piste. No park nor pipe. The shop showed me the Ozone but it seems too soft for all mountain freeriding. The more input I get, the better decision I can make. cheers! -Robson.

"Perfect Boot for the narrow foot" 4/4/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Burton Quick Lacing, Medium Flex, Highly Durable
  • Cons:  none,
  • Shoe Size:  11 1/2
  • Boot Size:  11

Experience:   I think these are the best boots available for a narrow foot. They hug my foot nicely and the lacing system is quick and tough. I really can't recommend these enough. I have the 2009's and they have served me well on countless days and they still look pretty new.

"Great boot." 4/1/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Very warm. Comfortable., Stiff, but still comfortable., Dual zones make dialing in fit easy.
  • Cons:  Speed zone lacing isn't that speedy, imo., Not sure shrinkage tech really made them smaller,
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  12
  • Boot Size:  12

Experience:   Got these in a 12, and they don't seem any smaller than my 10-year old Burton Freestyles in size 12, so not convinced that shrinkage technology is really there. That's a small quibble, since I'm riding wide boards, anyway. These are very warm, but my feet tend to be hot. The speed lacing ain't all that quick with the stowing of the handles and such. I do love the dual zones, and feel much more dialed-in with these than any traditional boot I tried on, and the lock-down on the speed lacing really keeps them dialed-in until you're ready to take them off at the lodge. I also ordered the 2009 Jeremy Jones from another site, and returned them because they just were not as comfortable as the 2010 Rulers.

"Kickin: bulky toe, good boot" 3/3/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Cushy comfortable, Easy in and out, Speed lacing is pretty sweet
  • Cons:  Not as stiff flex as expected, Hard to get real tight, Toe is bulky
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  14
  • Boot Size:  14

Experience:   Grabbed these up. It's hard to find boots that fit in size 14. I only found 3 of 20 that fit. This is a good boot. It's really a medium flex and not a firm, like 6.5/10. The white boot looks better online than strapped in. The toe is extra rounded and wide looking, but doesn't provide extra toe room somehow. That said, this boot is awesome and I would recommend it.

"Good Choice!" 3/3/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Comfortable, Warm, Easy lacing
  • Cons:  Broke 2 laces,
  • Fit:  soft
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  10 1/2
  • Boot Size:  10

Experience:   I have only gotten a few days on them this year but liking them so far. Tried a few different boots but they didn’t fit quite as well as the rulers. I have the Moto’s from a few years ago and wanted to go to something stiffer but didn’t want to jump to the IONS. I like the feel of them but I can’t get them as tight as my Moto’s cuz it makes my toes numb but after a few runs I got use to not having to have them as tight and was still really surprised at the response I still got. Not much of a park rider but I could do everything I normally do with them and much better for all mountain. Only problem I had was the first day I got them broke both of the lower zone laces. I was disappointed and never had a problem with my Moto laces but Burton shipped me new ones over night and no problems since. Definitely worth a try and would get them again.

"Soooo COMFY!" 2/18/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Boot stays tight and Top/Bottom Zoning is GREAT, No heel Lift, Super comfortable
  • Cons:  Takes a few days to break in, Lace pouches are cumbersome,
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  11
  • Boot Size:  11

Experience:   I went to my local boarding shop and tried on several boots before placing my foot into this incredibly comfortable and snug piece. The upper and lower lacing system is excellent and in my experience over the past few days of riding they stay tight all day and are easy to adjust to the perfect tightness. My only issue is the lace pouches on the side are kinda cumbersome but not terrible. It's difficult to get the lace into the pouch with gloves on. Overall, this boot is VERY comfortable! It feels like you are putting your foot into a custom molded bed for your foot. The flex is on the medium to stiff side and there are no pressure points that I noticed on your foot. I didn't have any issues with heel lift because of the shape of the inner liner. MAKE SURE U GET THE RIGHT SIZE...duh! Overall I am VERY pleased with these and they appear to be built very well and I expect to use them for many more seasons.

"WoW.... need I say more?" 2/6/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Great heel Hold, Snug fit,
  • Cons:  none,
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  10-10.5
  • Boot Size:  10

Experience:   So this is the first boot I've actually purchased. I've demoed and rented but never found anything that felt great. I finally decided to try something with speed lacing after not finding something i liked with regular laces. I slid on a pair of these and was instantly floored! I have smaller ankles, high arches and average feet these were like putting on a custom made boot for me. Toe box is snug and heel lift... HA not a chance, it's like having my heels glued into the boot. I ride all mountain and just put 3 days on these in Brian head after 42 fresh inches of dry Utah powder. the boots loosened up a little bit but they are still nice and firm. Absolutely love this boot.

"Great heel hold" 1/21/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Ruler
  • Pros:  Medium flex, speed lace, great for narrow feet/heels
  • Cons:  Speedzone lacing loosens up, no j-bar inserts,
  • Fit:  soft
  • Flex:  mid
  • Shoe Size:  11
  • Boot Size:  10.5

Experience:   Ive put about 11 days so far on the 2010 rulers and so far its my favorite boot. Coming off last year's Jeremy Jones boots (which were way too soft), the flex on these felt really responsive. It also was the best fitting boot (for me) out of all the brands; I tried on everything before I bought these. I have a medium to narrow foot with a narrow heel, and these fit perfectly. The speedzone lacing system is awesome, though after awhile it begins to loosen up, as the teeth dont hold the lacing as well. Still a great boot though, highly recommended especially for the price. If money is not an issue I would suggest looking into Burton Ions also, they were my first choice but too pricey.
