Sierra Says: Over the past few seasons, the Ion has certainly established itself as an industry favorite. This boot has one of the most universally comfortable fits out there, and performs like no-other as well. Also, it incorporates the EST sole which increase board feel and optimizes the rest of your EST setup. We recommend the Ion for the seasoned rider that is looking for supreme comfort, top shelf performance, and an overall stiffer, highly durable boot.

Burton Says: Ridden by more Burton (and non-Burton) pros than any other, the Ion easily lays claim to more podiums, covers, and videos than any other. The proving grounds for our latest innovations, this boot is built to adapt and destroy. The fastest, most adjustable lacing system locks you into the superior heel hold of a fully upgraded liner. The heightened feel of the EST midsole can even be fine tuned with the exclusive RX Adjustable Cushioning System.

"Can't top Ions.." 3/1/2009
Helpful Review?   (3) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ion
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Pros:  Heel hold, Comfortable, Easy lacing, Durable, Traction, Good quality, Breathable, Easy in & out, Well known brand
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   Had 07 ions and wore them to death, Briefly wore Ride Crew boots and picked these up a week ago as soon as they went on sale in the White/green, This is an EXCELLENT boot and upgraded from my 07's . It's lighter and comes with improved Kevlar speed zone laces for durability. I took these right out of the box with no heat-molding to Colorado-Beaver Creek/Vail. We started the day at the Rose Bowl/Stone Creek area of Black/double blacks at Beaver creek and I can tell you the stiffness of these boots are a HUGE asset on an insane 40 degree steep or chute. High speed runs at the end of the day --the same deal--- Great combination of Response/Stiffness/Comfort.. I have a narrow foot and had ZERO heel lift . I ride a T6 and they're perfectly matched with the board + C0'2 to suit my hard-charging speed freak style. This is a fantastic boot. Highly recommended for all-mountain and freeriders..

  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Pros:  Heel hold, Comfortable, Easy lacing, Durable, Traction, Good quality, Warm, Breathable, Waterproofing, Easy in & out, Well known brand, Popular model
  • Fit:  average

Experience:   Best boot i have ever used. The heel is great, the smaller sole est setup is a little different than i am used to, but you get used to it quickly and it isnt a problem. Very comfortable, it is just right in almost every way. Definitely a boot for more advanced riders, but a must have for those riders.

"Ions are the boot" 2/4/2009
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ion
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Pros:  Heel hold, Comfortable, Easy lacing, Durable, Traction, Good quality, Warm, Breathable, Waterproofing, Easy in & out, Well known brand
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   Some things are so awesome that I have to stockpile them. I have perfectly good Ions and at 40% off I couldn't resist buying another pair. They were a little painful to break in because I didn't heat mold them, but after a couple of times riding, they fit perfectly. Great boots, but they are stiff and not very forgiving. Not for a beginner.

"top 5 physical sensations known to man." 9/30/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ion
  • Pros:  Comfort, Flex, Super fast lacing
  • Cons:  sometimes too damn sexy looking,
  • Fit:  mid
  • Flex:  stiff
  • Shoe Size:  10
  • Boot Size:  10.5

Experience:   I've yet to ride, but I've been around the house for a week now wearing them. When I first slid my foot into the Ion it brought me back to a younger day when there were other 'firsts'. I've got pretty ridiculous skankles (skinny ankles) and the J-bars hold my foot in solidly. As for comfort, compared to my Hails, these boots are like a down duvet wrapped with 1200 thread sheets. I just wish my wife would let me sleep with them on.

I forgot to mention that the top speed lace is a tad long. I can wrap it twice around my leg before putting it in the holder.

  • Cons:  narrow but comfy inner liner,
  • Fit:  soft, mid
  • Flex:  stiff
  • Shoe Size:  10.5

Experience:   Boot was narrower than previous boots i have owned. But this boot provided much more upper stiff support than any other boot i have ridden in. My feet were always toasty warm and no blisters. Try them on and you wont be dissapointed!

Experience:   The lacing mechanism takes a while to get used to, but does permit you to really tweak where you want a closer fit, and where you want more breathing room. For the close fit, these are very comfortable boots.

"Burton Ion Review" 4/10/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ion
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Pros:  Waterproofing, Easy in & out, Well known brand
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   OK here is the deal. The Burton Ion boot is a good boot but not great. It would be GREAT if it has traditional laces. This is my first time using the speed zone lacing and i do not think that the added convenience and comfort are worth the lack of customization, peace of mind and comfort a traditional lace boot. I intend to get back on a high end, stiff lace boot for next year. I still recomend these boot to most people, but if you are anal like i am, you might want to stay with a traditional lace

  • Fit:  narrow

Experience:   Ive now bought boots three years in a row now with the Burton Ion's being my latest buy. I switched from the Hails to this boot and instantly loved it. The boot holds my heel down and supports my foot better than any boot i have been in. The lacing system could not be any easier as well. It has made a huge difference in the length of time i can ride and also being more comfortable on the mountain. These boots pack out and conform really well to your feet too.

Experience:   Fantastic. The price tag on these made me weary but they were worth every penny. I upgraded from 07 moto's and I feel like a new rider. INCREDIBLY comfortable, great response, fantastic heel hold. They were geared for the EST system and advanced riders, but I would suggest these boots to anyone who doesn't mind the price tag. I love them. No cons yet, i've heard from sources that your toes can get cold but i've had no issues thus far.

Experience:   Love the Ions. Lots of changes this season. This years boot is a little bit softer than last years, maybe becuase of the lower profile outer. I love the batwing on the laces. These dont pack out as much as some other boots, I dont have to size down. They are also some of Burtons more narrow boots, so they have great heel lock. Time to step up your game? Get'em!

  • Name: 2009 Burton Ion
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Pros:  Heel hold, Comfortable, Well known brand, Popular model
  • Cons:  Difficult in & out
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   Used 4 days in Utah, 1 day back east. Very form-fitting; was initially tight on my right big toe, but has since adjusted comfortably. No complaints whatsoever on comfort or performance though toes were occasionally cold in 25* weather on lifts, possibly due to overtightening? Have previously worn Vans Fargo Boas for 4 years-- Burton's speedlacing is nice, but not as easily adjustable as Boas. With Boas, you can loosen the tongue going up the lift and have them retightened by the time you hop off. The Burtons can do the same, but with significantly more effort. Speedlaces require pulling the handles out of the storage slots, then replacing them after tightening. Excess/loose lacing must be tucked into boot or otherwise risk being bound up in binding ratchets when stepping out of binding at end of run. Found lining to be difficult to remove for overnight drying/ airing out. Size 9.5 boot are true to size and fit great in Burton's medium sized bindings. Agree with other opinions that there is no heel lift. Again, very good performance and comfort.
