Sierra Says: The Hail has been the freestyle standard for the past number of years, and it really is no secret why. This boot has all the essentials for park domination, including a softer yet supportive flex and an articulating cuff to keep it consistent. It also features traditional lacing for the perfect fit, plush cushioning throughout the sole to hinder the big impacts, and just an overall comfortable design. We recommend the Hail to any serious rider that is looking for a time-tested, softer boot to abuse in the park or around the mountain.

Burton Says: Loaded with every unfair advantage, the Hail is the logical choice for those pulling 100 days a year, scrubbing toilets at night, just to shred all day. Built to let you lap the park 'til your legs fall off, the Hail is crazy comfortable and crammed with cushioning- check the NEW Stay-Puft Calf Capsule and massive NEW 270 Airbag. "Hails" 3/3/2009
Helpful Review?   (3) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Hail
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Pros:  Heel hold, Durable, Good quality, Warm, Waterproofing, Well known brand
  • Cons:  Difficult in & out
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   A word to the wise....order a size bigger. I normally wear a 10 to 10.5 in any given shoe or boot. I had to return two pairs of these. The 10's were way too small, the 10.5's felt no bigger than the 10's. The heat molding does not solve the overall length of the inner boot. My toes were squished no matter what. So, I'm satisfied with the 11's I got. Good boot, like the conventional stringing compared to speed lacing (too many strings everywhere for me). I'm going to walk around a lot in these boots to break them in, they are pretty stiff.

Experience:   Great boot, super comfortable. In the age of companies going to the speed lace, one-tug system, the Hail sticks to the age old "tie your own d*mn boots" system, and I love every bit of it. Adjustability, comfort, warmth... Everything you need in a boot. Get 'em!

Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Hail
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Pros:  Warm, Waterproofing, Well known brand
  • Cons:  Hard to lace
  • Fit:  heel is snug

Experience:   These boots look sick!!! i also like the the little nike air type bubble at the bottom of these boots. There is significant flex when bending knees foward, so if you are looking for an all around firm boot, this might not be the right one for you. These are my first boots and I like them way more than the crap I rented.

Experience:   no cons. i advise these boots to everyone. i have some 32 and b. rulers these kill. i like the way my rulers fit my feet but the speed zone trashed on me and the fitment with my bindings were weird. the hails is better all around fitment for your feet and binding. order a half size up then your street shoes!

Experience:   I bought the 07s and they were a bit big so i got the 08s and these are definitely my favorite boots ive ever put on. I take them everywhere on the mountain and they slay it. Even though they have a mellower flex they still have enough response for backcountry riding.

Experience:   I recently got these boots and they're the most comfortable boots I've had. Also, the lacing on the upper part of the boot has nice big eyelets so they're easy to tie, and there's no random velcro strap to mess with.

"Hard to go wrong" 9/14/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2008 Burton Hail
  • Pros:  Comfortable, Insole molds to form, Traditional Lacing
  • Cons:  Fits about 1/2 larger,
  • Fit:  mid

Experience:   The Burton Hail is about as solid a boot as you can get for the price range. Gives good support, but isn't too stiff. Can't say how it performs in the halfpipe or huckin' off of the giant booters, but I can say it can definately get you from your first mellow bunny-slope runs to the beginner's terrain park features: that's what it did for me, and I'm sure it'll do alot more in the coming season.

  • Pros:  Comfortable, Durable, Traction, Good quality, Waterproofing, Well known brand
  • Cons:  Hard to lace, Difficult in & out
  • Fit:  soft

Experience:   Like I said great for beginners, and thats what i was. When I first got them they seemed stiff to me but as i used them they really softened up and plus I didn't know how stiff boots could really get. They are comfortable and if you add in the j bars that helps keep your heel down. Overall they are good boots.
