Sierra Says: A standard for high performance snowboards, the Custom X is one of the most aggressive decks in Burton's lineup. With a fairly stiff flex, wax-lusting sintered base, lightweight core, and carbon/fiberglass laminates, the Custom X is designed to be ridden hard. For 2010, the introduction of the new Lightning Bolts add more attitude to this classic by increasing the edge-to-edge response time. The Custom X is best suited for the advanced rider that is looking for something fast and stable to smash anywhere, including the halfpipe and jumpline.

** BASE COLORS MAY VARY **

Burton Says: Driven by the cream of today's freestyle crop- Frederik, Kazu, Peetu, and Marko- the Custom X is the lightest, fastest, and snappiest wood core board on the planet. From massive airs, to face-melting speeds, and big spins into small spaces, this super-tuned version of the legendary Custom attacks with precision. NEW lightning bolts radiate outward from the Channel, creating zero lag time between you and your edges.

"2010 Burton Custom X 158" 2/25/2010

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Groomed,Halfpipe,High Speeds,Jumps,Off Trail,Switch Riding,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Best snowboard ever, responsive, lightweight,, extremely fast, poppy, hard carving, very stiff,, very versatile, stable in all conditions/speeds

Experience:   The Custom X in my mind is easily my favorite snowboard ever. After riding the 09 custom x, i immediately had to find a way to pick up the 2010, regardless of the price. It is expensive, but is easily worth the price tag. Whats so great about this snowboard is its versatility, and that it is very stable at all speeds and all conditions, and is very responsive. The edge to edge response is just unreal, since you can turn on a dime. I rode this in Breck and Canada, hiking it up to Breck lake chutes and some of the Canadian backcountry. This thing can ride through pow almost as good as any board out there. I love bombing groomed runs with this, just flying by everyone. In the park, it is also good. It can stomp any landing and can pick up enough speed fast enough to clear any kicker or jump. It also is great for spins, since it whips around very quick. It can basically ride anywhere you take it, whether on steep powdery lines or big parks. Although this board is very fun, it is for advanced riders ONLY. If you are the slightest bit lacking control or experience on a snowboard, think before you buy the CX. This is not just an upgrade of a custom, but a complete remodeling. If you get lazy on this thing for one split second and forget about riding, it can send you on your face or rolling down a trail anytime (happened when I got lazy once just riding on flats). However, if your that rider that loves high speeds, freeriding, or throwing huge tricks off of powder booters or park jumps this is for you. Personally, I love setting this up with C60s and Ions, because the response is unbelievable. In my opinion, the Custom X is worth the price tag, and is easily the BEST SNOWBOARD EVER.

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Off Trail,Park,Powder,Switch Riding,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  you can pass all of your friends with ease, super fast, light weight, snappy, head turnner, not everone has one
  • Cons:  it will wip you around if your not in shape,

Experience:   OK first off when I got this board it was like I was holding the excalibur sword or somthing it was pretty sweet. the board is super rigid and it really flys it accelerate's so quick its pretty un real compaird to other boards. off jumps it is super stable and just feels right in the air and is super easy to adjust for landings. in powder it is super fun and floats with ease slashing around is sweet but can some times lead to some leeg burn due to how snappy it is but thats usalley onley if you switch from a soft park board. when you set up the board in a centerd stance it is quite fun to jump on because if you land to tail heavy or landing tail heavy when landing switch the board just pulles you throu where other boards would wash out. in the pipe it is a machine and huges the walls like it was on rails and again once airboarn it is super easy to manuver. over all this is one of the best boards that I have and is a pure joy to strap into and shred on it, is a verry wise choice fore someone who is pretty agressive and or serious about snowboarding.

"Awesome Board" 3/30/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Off Trail,Powder,Switch Riding,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Very Fast and Stable, Very Stiff, Good Edge Hold
  • Cons:  Not for Beginners,

Experience:   This board is simply amazing. I can bomb down any slope at very high speeds and not have to worry about the board becoming unstable. I'm mainly a trail rider and a powder hound. The stiffness took a couple of runs to get use, but once you get the hang of the board, it shreds up anything the mountain throws at it. The edges on this board can cut through just about anything. Although I will have to say is the board is not forgiving, let your attention drift off for a sec and you may end up faceplanting very hard. With that said, the board is NOT FOR BEGINNERS, you will only hurt yourself on this board.

"The best snowboard. Ever." 2/21/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X

  • Use:  Groomed,Halfpipe,High Speeds,Jumps,Switch Riding,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Fast, Durable, Stiff, Poppy, Smooth Ride, Jumps, Pipe, Powder, Backcountry, Groomers, Lightweight, Responsive, Easy to carve

Experience:   After riding my 2009 Custom X, I had to pick up the 2010, and no surprise, it continues to dominate all over the mountain. It is great for high speeds, and freeriding, and excells in the backcountry. Went hiking with this in BC Canada and the ride was effortless. On the mountain, whether it was bumps, smooth hardpack or icy conditions, the board performed almost perfectly, and held an edge unbelievably on ice. When I took it to the park, I went off of kickers and there is almost no worrying about clearing the jump, sometimes even overshot the landing, however it absorbed the landing as if I landed on air. It is POSSIBLE to butter and jib with it, but it takes a lot of effort to do so. On top of it all, the durability is unbelievable. I had to have ran over many rocks and someone even crashed into me and no damage was done to the base or topsheet. Above all, this is my favorite snowboard ever, and IMO is worth the price tag. C60s and Ions go really well with this snowboard giving it amazing response and feel.

"Carve your own Black Diamond " 1/4/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Super fast, Great for carving , Stiff
  • Cons:  Stiff ,

Experience:   Ok let me first start out by saying that I was in limbo between this board and a bunch others. And read pretty much ever review of this board and last years model. But now that I have ridden on this twice I can surely say that I made the right choice. If your someone who likes to try a few jumps, nothing crazy but spends most of your time carving down the mountain and are not afraid of some speed then this board is for you. It's night a day between this board and my old board, the precision you have when carving is amazing. You can turn on a dime. The speed is ridiculous, when people said this board was fast they were not lying. When I said that the stiffness of the board was a pro and con what I mean is its a trade off. yes its stiff and I cant manual on it as well as my other board and its not as forgiving. But the stiffness of the board gives you more control, speed, and precision. One thing I want to cover is that I was worried this board would be a bit advanced for me, I've been riding for three seasons and can carve toe and heel side as well as stop toe and heel side. I consider myself an intermediate, and the board for me has not been difficult to ride. Nor was the transition from my park board to this board a difficult one. The reason i didn't give this board 5 stars is because 5 stars would be perfect and I don't really believe in something being perfect. But I reassure you this board is amazing, and I wouldn't trade it for any board out there.

Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Pros:  holds a carve with insane stability,
  • Cons:  none that i can think of?,

Experience:   a buddy of mine has this board and was kind enough to let me use it for two runs, and let me tell ya if the price wasn't so steep this board woulda been mine right than and there. But this board is on the stiffer side more for freestyle riding and shredding i'm sure it'll do fine in the parks and stuff but i would much rather prefer a softer board for that stuff, the graphics look plain on the pictures but don't be fooled, it's like some sort of pearl gold and snow does not stick on it...or it was just a pretty hot day...ride it, super fast, i like

  • Cons:  Price,

Experience:   This board is wicked fast. The response you get from this board while hauling it down the steeps is incredible. I have never ridden a board that compares to this one in that respect. In the park it rides like a much stiffer custom, which is fine on the bigger kickers, but jibbing isnt as much fun as it is on the regular custom. The only thing i did not have a chance to do was ride it in the pow. Overall an excellent board for someone who doesn't spend their whole day in the park, but does like to hit some big jumps once in a while.

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Low Speeds,Off Trail,Powder,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Stability, Graphics, Edge hold

Experience:   So after having ridden the custom '09 for a year, I decided to switch it up and ride the '10 CX. Definitely one of the most amazing boards i've seen and have ridden. The CX has amazing stability and is a carving beast. The edge hold is spectacular and the stiffness allows you do go at high speeds while maintaining the stability you want. Now, a commonly debated point in regards to the CX is that you 'must' be an advanced rider is, in my opinion, not true. I think if you have a pretty good understanding of snowboarding, you can probably use this board. You may not be able to use it to its full potential, however, progressing on it would be quite an experience.

edit : i rode it through HARD ice/groomed/off trail/powder. Nothing stops it.
