Sierra Says: A standard for high performance snowboards, the Custom X is one of the most aggressive decks in Burton's lineup. With a fairly stiff flex, wax-lusting sintered base, lightweight core, and carbon/fiberglass laminates, the Custom X is designed to be ridden hard. For 2010, the introduction of the new Lightning Bolts add more attitude to this classic by increasing the edge-to-edge response time. The Custom X is best suited for the advanced rider that is looking for something fast and stable to smash anywhere, including the halfpipe and jumpline.

Burton Says: Driven by the cream of today's freestyle crop- Frederik, Kazu, Peetu, and Marko- the Custom X is the lightest, fastest, and snappiest wood core board on the planet. From massive airs, to face-melting speeds, and big spins into small spaces, this super-tuned version of the legendary Custom attacks with precision. NEW lightning bolts radiate outward from the Channel, creating zero lag time between you and your edges.

Sierra Says: "The Custom X is a super versatile all-mountain snowboard. It shreds hard in the pipe, but also slays it on the mountain and through the trees. This board is very fast and aggressive on groomers and can easily stomp huge kickers and cliff-drops. Its Stainless Steel PDE gives the board incredible edgehold while also eliminating the possibility of rusty edges . If you are an advanced rider that loves the steep groomers and backcountry booters, pick up a Custom X and find out what all the buzz is about.
** Only Burton bindings will be compatible with the ICS system on this board**

Burton says: Accelerated all-mountain freestyle. DCP approaches a granite face for a switch five. Kazu rockets above a 22-foot transition. Frederik floats down a pillowy face. Marko schools every possible spin off a crisp Hemsedal booter. Precise, fast and nimble on all terrain, and now upgraded with the unlimited adjustability of the Infinite Channel System, the Custom X is the planet?s premier wood core board. "Burton Custom X ICS 159W" 3/25/2009
Helpful Review?   (4) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Custom X
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Durable, lightweight, Easy to carve, Stable at high speeds, Popular model, Strong edgehold, Popular on mountain, Well known brand

Experience:   Speed, speed, speed!! This thing is fast! Not so fast on slow wet snow or small inclines but ANY other surface and decent inclines and this thing takes off like a rocket with extreme control and stability. The edges are unreal. They will cut into anything. In fact its actually hard to catch an edge because it rips right through anything, from powder to ice. Dont run your friend over or they might loose a digit. Control is unimaginable until you ride it. As for a railroad, either your board is to big or learn to ride the bumps. I took this thing to the top of Park City 5 days in a row with a busted ankle and semi icy moguls. Was still the first one down every time with only one working foot. Jumping and Parks were not doable with stupid ankle (see pic) but flex/stiffness is a pro in all other ridding conditions. Side note, this thing flat rides awsome. Where other boards chatter or have to be ridden on an edge the Custom rides flat and stable allowing for more comfort and speed. I cant wait until next season when I can take this God out with two working feet. If you're thinking about buying this board stop thinking and go get your wallet NOW before its gone! One run on the Burton Bullet with Burton bindings and my ankle couldn't handle it. Back to the Custom and everything was fine. Burton Custom X ICS 159W w/ C02 EST You can use other bindings as the board comes with an adapter, but why would you put regular crappy tires on a Ferrari?

"Burton Custom X 158" 2/24/2008
Helpful Review?   (2) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2008 Burton Custom X Second
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  The Burton Custom X is a great board to take all over the mountain. It holds an edge extremely well and allows you to ride with confidence. It is stiff enough that it has little to no chatter for those high speed runs. Thank goodness for the pressure distribution edges that Burton has incorporated into this board, that will give it that extra bit of ooommph when carving hard. But it also has a reasonable amount of flex (but not a significant amount) to perform a few tricks in the bag.
  • Cons:  Perhaps I have not been able to ollie off this board with perfection yet, but I did find the pop in the Custom X a bit lacking, and it requires a bit more effort to get that extra height off the ground.

Experience:   I found my Custom X 158 great to take in the pow and tree runs. It was the perfect length so that I would not wash out in those hard carves in the pow and was not too long nor difficult to maneuver in the glades. This is definitely not a freestyle/park board so if you're looking for a super soft board, look elsewhere. While attempting butters may require a bit more effort, this board can still do it all. The price of the board may seem a bit steep, but with price comes quality design and a great board to add to your quiver. There's a reason why a lot of pros ride this board.

"Rock Steady Bomber, Poor turn initiation" 4/11/2009
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Durable, Stable at high speeds, Popular model, Strong edgehold, Popular on mountain, Stiff, Well known brand

Experience:   This board is a highly venerable stalwart of hill bombing, regular or switch, but is simply not nimble or responsive enough at moderate to slower speeds for satisfying carving, and too stiff for fluid and easy freestyle trickery. I currently own an '09 160 and an '09 158. I'm 170 and ride both of these ducked at reference stance. Surprisingly, there is significant difference between the two. The 160 feels far more stable during high speed turning. The 158 tail gets knocked around and washed out far easier than the 160 for me, sometimes forcing me to safety-revert while bombing. It produces far more chattery and bouncy feedback when I speed check at moderate to high speeds as well. About me: I'm an all-mountain rider since 1984. I'm a size 10 who mainly rides DriverX boots due to an ankle injury. I used to be primarly a carving and bombing freak but in the last few years have really been turned on to mixing in heavy switch riding, butters, ollie and jumping rotational stuff. Like I everyone else, I love powder but living in California means that deep powder days are pretty infrequent. My current quiver is as follows: '07 164 K2 Nemesis '07 161 K2 Nemesis '09 160 Santa Cruz Gian Simmen TT Pro '09 160 Burton Custom X '09 158 Burton Custom X '06 157 K2 Nemesis '09 156 Burton Jeremy Jones '09 152 K2 World Wide Weapon '08 123 Rossignol Mini If I could only have one of these boards I'd take the Jeremy Jones. For me, the only thing I like it BEST for is slashing and moderate to higher speed rotational antics, but it does just about everything quite well so I consider it the most versatile board in my quiver.

Experience:   Awesome board, what ive been riding for a while now. Great at high speeds, never had a problem with the edges with the exception when i sharped them once a little to much and it cut through my boot laces while i was sitting on the lift later in the day, but i guess its a tribute to how well the edges hold.

  • Pros:  Great Feel, Wide = Mid-wide,

Experience:   This board is awesome. Flat out, this thing will help you understand what everyone's talking about when they say you can feel the mountain and just that feedback will make you a better rider. Pair this with the EST bindings, and you can adjust to your heart's content. Depending on your view, the fact that their wide is more of a mid-wide than a true 270+ wide board. Overall, can't go wrong with this one!

"Good advanced rider board." 9/19/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Good responsive ride, Incredibly Fast, Holds an edge
  • Cons:  Slightly heavy,

Experience:   This is an awesome board for the intermediate to advanced rider. The response is amazing, especially when paired with the Burton Triad's. It is a bit heavy, not too much to bother you when riding it, however on the lift up it does tend to weigh your legs down a bit making it a little uncomfortable. Make sure to pair it with a decent pair of bindings to get the most out of this board. And I know its probably fairly obvious but this board is wicked fast in addition to it's technical advantages.

"Great All Around Board 159" 9/14/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Sturdy, Flexible, Smooth Ride
  • Cons:  none really.,

Experience:   This is a 2009 Burton Custom X 159 Board. It was a little hard to learn with in the beginning. I learned how to snowboard with this board and it was a little long for me so learning it took some time because I wasn't able to control it as easily due to the length. Now that I've been going almost every week, I've pretty much mastered this board for all around general purpose use. It's great for high speeds. It's a great length for me now especially for this. It's flexible, which some people might not like. I love it because when you're on uneven patches of snow it curves to all the dips and bumps. You can feel the terrain under you and adjust for it. It's fast and responsive. It might be great for off trail use if you get a shorter board, but it was just too hard to get through really dense areas with this board, which isn't the boards fault at all. All in all this is a great choice for an all around board. I just wouldn't want to detune it for park. I'm planning on getting a Rome Agent for this, and a shorter one at that.

  • Name: 2010 Burton Custom X
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  fast, light weight, great for jumps and half pipe
  • Cons:  jibs, durability,

Experience:   I bought the Custom x and i do like it very much. The problem i had with it is i got into jibbing which the board is very bad with. It is kind of stiff and not durable enought for jibs. Also my other problem is i had ride rx bindings which where always coming loose. Even though im not a real burton binding fan i would set this board up with burtons because of their unique system.

Use Lock Tight on your binding screws, that will keep the from loosening.

  • Use:  Boxes,Groomers,Jumps,Powder,Rails
  • Pros:  Strong, Fast Base, Light Weight
  • Cons:  Positive core makes it very stiff,

Experience:   The Burton Custom X is the ultimate shred stick, it excels on any type of terrain imaginable. I took the 158 everywhere and over everything in Utah it and destroyed absolutely everything in its path. I also took the 156 to the park for a day and could not believe how well it performed on all the features for me despite it being quite a stiff board. If your looking for a board that will never be lacking in speed the Custom X is definitely for you. The Sintered WFO Vision Base has two speeds Stopped and Mach 5. Even at extremely high speeds the X maintains its stability perfectly. The Pressure distribution edges also provide a little more grip and will come in handy for those who ride in icy conditions. In addition to all these tech features the Custom X is wrapped up with some clean and fresh graphics. Bottom line this board will conquer anything you can throw at it.
