While most of our mostly groomer skis start in the 74mm range, this one, at 70mm is the narrowest that we carry. Some might wonder why, in the face of a trend toward wider skis, we even carry this ski. The reason is simple, for it’s intended usage, this is about as good as it gets. The Progresser 9 is about as close to a real GS ski as most skiers will need to get. This baby can be skied in a lot of conditions and turn shapes but the grins really come out at ear flapping speeds on smooth hard snow. The solid wood/metal layup is smoothed out by a layer of sophisticated AirCarbon material. The Flowflex plate provides lift, dampening and extra power to the edge while managing the energy of this powerful ski.

At first, when cruising down an easy blue run at a fast pace, the Fischer Progressor 9 felt amazingly smooth and quiet but not especially energetic. As speeds picked up, I started to lay in more edge angle and started to feel the 'pop’. Faster and faster was totally comfortable and as speeds and angles picked up, so did the energy. As I dropped over a transition and pressed the lip I found myself on a steep run that hadn’t been groomed for a bit. The snow was as hard as it typically gets in the west and the surface was irregular. I dropped my hip toward the snow, and as the angle built, I started to flex the inside knee up toward my armpit. Both skis were working and I could feel the smooth powerful grip. As the turn bottomed out, I moved my outside ski forward just a little to finish the arc and WHOOOPS!!....there was the energy that was lacking at slower speeds. The great thing was that the energy came smoothly and in an almost measured fashion. Later on that run I took the Progressor out to the edge on the trail and it slipped through about 4" of crud as if it wasn’t even there. This is a serious tool for good skiers with an appetite for speed and little desire to seek out moguls or off trail adventures.
