Product Description
The Legend Pro has quietly become sort of uhhh.....legendary among good big mountain skiers everywhere. Sorry........I know this sounds like a cliche or at least a pun but it’s really true. This is a ski that built its franchise by word of mouth and eventually mountain legend. There were several versions of the ski with most being stiff, aggressive, and powerful, hence the growing Legend. Still, there were a few models in there (notably the recent versions in 176 cm) that were not super aggressive. While the 186 and 194 versions were tough to handle for many skiers, those 176’s made very solid (if somewhat wide) daily skis. Many good skiers liked the somewhat more forgiving flex of the 176 but wanted a little more length than the 176 offered. In ’08, that combination just wasn’t there. Happily for ’09....it is
The new version of the Dynastar Legend Pro takes the beam flex of the 176, places it in a slightly wider shape, and expands it to a full range of sizes from 166-190. While the new ski has a marginally tighter turn radius than the older ones, it is not immediately noticeable. The new flex, which I would rate as medium-firm, is mated with a very low camber to deliver a 100mm wide crud/powder/all terrain ski. The low camber makes this version notably better in powder than the previous models. I ski a ’08 in 176 cm. regularly and this new version is better in off trail conditions than the ski I have. This new model gives me the opportunity to ski a 184 which is my preferred length range for this type of ski. In the past, the 186 was just more ski than I wanted much of the time.
The new Legend Pro is a little tough to categorize because it could be a 50/50 or everyday ski for some skiers. Still, this ski IS 100mm wide and not exactly nimble on groomers or a 'can of corn’ in moguls, so I categorize it as a "Big Mountain" ski. To me, this means a ski that significantly prioritizes off trail and deeper snow conditions without being focused enough to be categorized as a "powder only" ski.
