Dynastar Legend Mythic w/ PX12 Skis

I classify the Mythic as a 50/50 ski: meaning 50% on trail and 50% off trail. This ski category is the most popular among our customers that categorize themselves and "go anywhere, ski anything" skiers. Keep in mind of course, that many very good skiers have little appetite for off trail skiing. Those skiers should probably be looking into something different. The Dynastar Mythic Rider utilizes the rather distinctive formula of construction and shapes that Dynastar uses in most of their Legend series of skis.

This formula places a solid wood/metal lay-up of medium-firm flex and torsion into a sidecut of moderate shape. In the case of the Mythic, the result is a ski that has more of a medium to long turn feel and favors stability and power over ease and maneuverability. Grip is very good on all but the hardest snow and stability is second to none especially in mixed conditions. This is among the very best crud busters in the 50/50 category. However, this is probably not a ski for an intermediate to grow into. The Mythic Rider needs to be skied with some authority and is best suited for skiers that are not afraid to say that they are "pretty good." I ski roughly 80% of the time off trail and this was my go-to as an everyday model for last year. I did notice that it does not excel when the powder is light and fluffy, (it?s a little stiff for that). On the other hand, when that light fluff has gotten heavy and tracked out (say noon in Tahoe), the Dynastar Mythic comes into it?s own. In many cases, I personally like this category of skis in fairly long sizes but in the case of the Mythic, a 178 is all I need. If I personally had to dump my powder skis (God forbid) and my carvers (ditto) and keep one pair for the Western US, the Dynastar Mythic Rider fits my priorities and is one of the leaders on my very short list.
