Burton Malolo ICS Snowboard
Item # : SS40237 |
Year : 2009
Sierra says: "With a 20mm taper this Burton Malolo plows through the toughest powder spots, cliff-drops, and tree lines. With such a taper you should size down 2-4 cm from your average board length so you do not get too much board for yourself. It rides groomed runs adequately, but shows its true self when in deep pow. Want a new all-around powder stick? Well the Malolo is just up your alley."
Burton says: Powder-fueled with a heart for freestyle. Malolo riders thank the heavens that there are people on this planet who honestly hate powder. A true deep-snow surfer with a heart for freestyle, the Malolo shreds the entire mountain, spins off cliffs and kickers, and slashes from stash to stash with uncompromised float and flow precision. While others complain that there's too much snow, Jedi's like Haakon, Nico and DCP are riding a powder-fueled battering ram, hot-lapping the misties 'til their eyes bleed. Terrain Uses

Pros: Durable, lightweight, Easy to carve, Well known brand
Other Thoughts: I have the 2008 and all I can say is this board rocks. I have used it for powder days out west and it kept me smiling all day long. Suited my needs way better than the fish, a little bit more versatile.

Pros: Durable, Easy to carve, Stable at high speeds, Great value
Other Thoughts: More than just a powder board, because of the taper this board is super fun to slice up groomers. This is the ultimate resort powder board. Go from stash to stash, take that tight tree run you've been eyeing up. This board is much more versatile than the Fish...not a better pure powder board but much more versatile and a better value.

Other Thoughts: Great float/slash in the pow pow.. I debuted my 162 in a massive storm at Vail last year and it DID NOT disapoint.....
Rides well on groomers is is Ridiculously fast due to the WFO base...

Other Thoughts: A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that because this is a tapered board - it has to be a pow-specific board. Not the case.
With the Pro45 sidewalls, stance, shape, and WFO base - this thing performs top notch as a speed/freeride machine. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a good all-mtn choice, as i would not take it into the park - but it's far more versitile then just being a pow board. This is actually my board of choice for days of hard-charging speed.
With the stance and shape - it does take a little getting used to at first. The edge hold is unreal on this thing, and it can feel a little grabby at first. With the shape - it feels almost as if turning is coming from the tail of the board instead of the nose. Once you get used to it however - it's one of the easiest boards to ride i've ever been on.

Other Thoughts: Graphics are MUCH better this year...the 154 doesn't have pink all over it and look like a girls board like last years. What's so great about the malolo is the large nose allows you to size down. I was riding a 158-161 on powders days and i've been on the 154 malolo for 4 seasons now. The small tail makes it so you can poke through the powder like a hot knife through butter, it carves like your on the groomers even though your in a foot of powder. Plus your back leg DOES NOT BURN since there is less tail to push down. The large nose gives you tons of float. I was shocked at how well the board carved on groomers too...you can get away with this as your only board if you are a free rider...
